Nostalgia in the making

After my Cuba trip earlier this year, I hopped over to visit my brother and his fam in Florida and snapped some shots of them the yard of their very first home. When I see these photos, I imagine what it will feel like for them to looking back on these photo is 20, 30, 50 years and be transported back in time to these precious days.

This is a thought that I often think about when I am photographing people actually. Nostalgia in the making.

At home with Jodi of Hygge Woven

I’ve really been loving connecting with creatives in their spaces lately. Absorbing some of the magic and observing their flow leaves me feeling so very inspired. And that was definitely the case of my time with Jodi – the maker behind Hygge Woven /Hygge Prints.

Spending a cozy morning with Jodi in her home here in Port Townsend, Washington felt like such a gift. The chill of Autumn was in the air and we spent our time together staying cozy, chatting, sipping on tea and I got to document her in her creative flow. Here are some of my favorite snaps, all shot of film.

Best of 2021

2021 looked a lot different than year passed, one reason being that I relocated up to beautiful Olympic Peninsula in Washington and I had to travel down to Southern California for many of my sessions! I feel so honored that so many of you were willing to organize shoots around my travel schedule. I really do have the best clients ever.

My plan is to be in LA in the Spring and Fall and am also booking sessions in the lush Pacific NW (including Seattle/Portland) so please spread the news ❤ And for now, here are a few of my 2021 favorites!

Bare feet, warm hearts // Malibu family session

I heard the happy screams and giggles of kids coming from the house as I walked up the path to the front door where I was greeted warmly by a smiling faces, and bare feet. From this moment, I KNEW this was going to be a good time. We ended the sesh at a local Malibu beach, where we had the whole shore to ourselves. It was one of those evening that you wish could have just gone on forever.

Best of 2020!

Oh 2020…what a roller-coaster of a year you have been. Starting off strong with some of the sweetest in-home sessions and then halting suddenly when Covid shut down the world. No work for months led to lots of creative brainstorming (and bread baking!) and, despite it all, I feel incredible grateful that I was still able to create love-filled images with so many of you.

I will never take hugs and smiles for granted again.

Now for some of my personal faves from the year! It was SO hard to narrow it down since I love ALL of my clients & sessions but sharing 500 photos would just be too much. haha.

Thanks for stopping by & cheers to 2021 being better than the last!

Jessamyn // Creative portrait session at home in Topanga Canyon

We are 3 weeks into “social distancing” thanks to Covid 19 & I hope you are all staying healthy, sane, & finding the silver linings wherever possible! It’s such a strange & uncertain time and boy do I feel lucky that my husband continues to have work, even though my photo sessions have all been on pause for the unforeseeable future.

I miss taking photos of people so much. But in the stillness, I have been feeling waves of immense gratitude (intermingled with worry & anxiety about the state of the world!) that I have a job that I actually miss. That I get to live in a place where I am able to go outside and lay in the grass.

I thought now was the perfect time to share this session of the one & only, Jessamyn, that I shot back in February in Topanga Canyon. It embodies what I have been really trying to focus on during these past weeks at home – to slow down, be gentle with myself, & to find joy in the small things.

Archie // Portland family session

Me and this lovely mama go back 20 years and I was SO happy to be able to reconnect in person this summer on my west coast road trip. We have been in touch over the years through the good ol’ Instagram where I have gotten to drool over her beautiful desserts and creative eye, giggle at her IG stories, & watch her grow a family and move across the country – but getting to hang in person…what a DREAM. And don’t even get me started on Archie. (Is he not the cutest creature you’ve ever seen!?)

We started our time together at their sweet home in one of my favorite cities, Portland, and adventured out for some sunset light and blueberry picking. Here are some of my favorites from that day.

Best of 2019!

Hi friends & HAPPY 2020! After a wildly busy season of photo shoots & a restorative holiday (in which I mainly spent eating & laughing with loved ones! is there anything better? ha!), I’m feeling so ready to get back to what I love most – making photo magic with YOU!

I couldn’t think of a better way to start of the new year than by sharing some of my favorites from the last. I loved taking a trip down memory lane and, mainly, it just made me feel immense gratitude for all of you out there that chose me to freeze time for you over this past year. If that’s you, THANK YOU! I know there are a bazillion photogs out there and I am really so so honored.

Lots of love & cheers to this year being the best one yet. xx

A little slice of heaven // Topanga Canyon family session

My sweet friends are having another baby (YAAY!!) & moving to Australia (WAHHH!) so we knew that our photo sesh had to take place in their lovely little cabin before it officially sold. After playing at home, we adventured down to visit and feed Giraffe, their beloved horse – like they so often do.

‘Twas bittersweet, for sure, but I am certain that the next chapter will be even more magical and love-filled that this one. And I can’t wait to visit them in Australia! Here are some favorites from our afternoon together.
